Plant Life
We have a vast diversity of flowers, some very important to
the insect population including as Field Scabious and Devilsbit Scabious.During
the Spring, we are blessed with acres of Bluebells. We also have Violets and
King Cups. As the summer progresses a variety of Thistles appear, Milkmaids,
Knapweed, Fox & Cubs, and Grasses galore – a favourite of butterflies. Where we
have disturbed the ground, Foxgloves push their way up.
Our tree species are many and diverse and for this reason
we have an amazing number of wild birds that come to breed and pass through in
Spring and Autumn. We have recorded over 80 species.
We have a lot of Willow which hold insects and is good
foraging for Tits and Warblers.
We also have many fruiting trees which feed the Finches,
Thrushes, Jays and others.

There are also great quantities of seed bearing food plants
to fatten up the migrants on their return journeys.
The Finches particularly like the Knapweed, Thistel and seeds of Birch and Alder Trees as well as the Scabious seeds in late Summer.
